After spending any amount of time in the Outback you realize how hot this planet really can get. We would end up hiking regularly in the middle of the day in consistent 105+ temps. NBD

With the help of a dear Aussie friend Adam from a previous trip (see last years Oz blog), I was able to get a slightly discounted rate on a badass rough and tumble Uluru camping tour. Complete with authentic no-frills canvas bush swag, campfire cooking, bus breakdowns and wildlife surprises.

Day One:

After leaving Alice Springs by mini-bus at 5:30am, we would barrel five hours southwest towards our first stop by the side of the road. Unfortunately, the bus began to overheat, leaving us without air conditioning and forcing us to wait for a returning tour to swap busses in the middle of nowhere. We would later saunter into Kings Canyon waaay behind schedule.

Arriving at a campsite crawling with millions of aggressive ants, I would curl up tightly in my well-zipped swag under the stars as most of the others sprayed the ground with excessive bug spray to no avail.

.... A dingo would come into camp that night.
